Every microwave format we service

From basic solo units to premium inverter convection microwaves

Solo Microwaves

BASIC HEATING

Standard microwaves for reheating and basic cooking. Single magnetron, simple controls. Common across all brands at entry-level price points. Most cost-effective to repair when faults occur.

  • Magnetron failures (no heating)
  • Door switch interlock issues
  • Turntable motor failures
  • Control panel button failures

Grill Microwaves

BROWNING CAPABILITY

Microwaves with added grill heating element for browning. Common in Samsung MG series, LG MH series, Sharp R-series. Two heating systems means more potential failure points.

  • Grill heating element failure
  • Combination mode programming issues
  • Magnetron service
  • Higher temperature interlock failures

Convection Microwaves

FULL OVEN CAPABILITY

Premium microwaves combining microwave, grill, and convection (true oven). Samsung Smart Oven, Panasonic NN-CS series, LG NeoChef. Most complex microwave format.

  • Convection fan motor failures
  • Multiple heating element diagnostics
  • Complex control system service
  • Smart features and app connectivity

Inverter Microwaves

VARIABLE POWER

Inverter technology for true variable power output instead of cycling. Panasonic Cyclonic Inverter, Samsung Inverter. More even cooking, but inverter board failures are common after 5+ years.

  • Inverter board failures (most common)
  • Variable power calibration issues
  • HV transformer service (when applicable)
  • Specialized diagnostic tools required

Built-In Microwaves

INTEGRATED KITCHENS

Microwaves designed for built-in installation with custom trim kits. Bosch, Siemens, Miele built-in lines. Premium pricing, premium service requirements.

  • Cabinetry-integrated removal
  • Trim kit ventilation issues
  • Built-in specific parts sourcing
  • Custom installation refit

Over-the-Range Microwaves

WITH HOOD VENTILATION

Microwaves mounted above the cooktop with built-in ventilation hood. Common in modern kitchens. Combines microwave service with ventilation system maintenance.

  • Hood fan motor service
  • Charcoal filter replacement
  • Mounting bracket service
  • Combined ventilation diagnostics
Diagnostic Approach

7 most common microwave failures

Presentation

Microwave appears to operate normally — turntable spins, fan runs, timer counts down. But food remains cold after full cook cycle.

Root Causes

Magnetron failed (most common, 60% of cases). High voltage diode failed. HV capacitor failed. HV transformer failed. Door interlock not engaging. Inverter board failure (inverter models).

Our Repair Approach

Critical: HV capacitor MUST be discharged before any service — stores lethal charge even unplugged. Magnetron continuity testing. HV diode test. OEM magnetron replacement (NEVER aftermarket — safety critical). Cost-benefit assessment if multiple HV components failed.

Presentation

Visible sparks, electrical arcing, or burning smell during operation. Sometimes accompanied by burnt marks on cavity walls. Safety hazard — discontinue use immediately.

Root Causes

Burnt waveguide cover (mica sheet) — most common cause. Stirrer/turntable contact damage. Damaged cavity paint exposing metal. Foreign metallic object. Magnetron breakdown.

Our Repair Approach

Waveguide cover (mica) replacement — inexpensive but critical safety part. Cavity paint repair with proper microwave-safe paint. Magnetron inspection. Test cycle verification before return to service.

Presentation

Door won't latch closed, or unit won't start even with door appearing closed. Door hangs unevenly. Critical safety issue — microwave should NEVER operate with door not properly sealed.

Root Causes

Door latch hooks broken or worn. Door hinge failure. Door interlock switches failed (typically 2-3 micro-switches). Door alignment shifted. Bent door frame from misuse.

Our Repair Approach

Critical safety repair — never bypass interlocks. OEM door latch replacement. Hinge service. Interlock switch replacement (all switches as set, not individually). Microwave leakage test with calibrated meter required after door service.

Presentation

Excessive noise during operation — louder than normal humming or buzzing. May be intermittent or constant. Sometimes accompanied by reduced cooking power.

Root Causes

Magnetron approaching end-of-life (most common). HV transformer vibration. Cooling fan motor bearing failure. Loose mounting screws. Turntable motor noisy.

Our Repair Approach

Sound source localization. Magnetron amperage test. Transformer mount inspection. Fan motor replacement. Honest assessment if magnetron is end-of-life and replacement isn't economical.

Presentation

Turntable plate doesn't rotate during cooking. Causes uneven heating with cold and hot spots in food. Sometimes turntable rotates intermittently or in jerks.

Root Causes

Turntable motor failed. Turntable coupler (plastic spider) cracked. Turntable rollers worn. Glass plate not seated properly on coupler. Control board not signaling motor (rare).

Our Repair Approach

Glass plate seating verification first. Coupler inspection (often the culprit, inexpensive replacement). Motor voltage and resistance testing. OEM turntable motor replacement. Roller wheel set replacement when worn.

Presentation

Some or all control panel buttons don't respond. Display works but inputs are not accepted. May be specific buttons (number 7, etc.) or entire panel sections.

Root Causes

Membrane keypad failure (most common — moisture damage). Control board ribbon connector loose. Control board failure. Steam damage from food. Button stuck physically.

Our Repair Approach

Visual inspection for moisture damage or stuck buttons. Ribbon cable reseating. Membrane keypad replacement when failed. Control board service. We can often replace just the keypad without full control panel.

Presentation

Circuit breaker trips immediately on microwave start, or after a few seconds. May trip GFCI on shared circuits. Sometimes only when on high power setting.

Root Causes

HV capacitor short circuit (most common). HV diode short. Magnetron internal short. HV transformer fault. Wiring damaged with ground fault. Sharing circuit with other appliances.

Our Repair Approach

Critical safety service — never bypass breakers. HV capacitor discharge before any work. Component-by-component testing of HV section. Verify dedicated circuit (microwaves should be on dedicated 15A circuits).

Service Specializations

Microwave-specific expertise

Magnetron Service

OEM magnetron replacement only — never aftermarket on safety-critical components. Proper torque specifications, cooling fin alignment, RF gasket replacement. Magnetron is the #1 microwave repair.

HV Section Repair

HV capacitor, diode, and transformer service. Critical safety procedure: always discharge capacitor first (stores lethal voltage even unplugged). Component-level testing and OEM replacement.

Inverter Board Service

Specialized service for inverter microwaves (Panasonic Cyclonic, Samsung Inverter). Component-level repair on inverter boards saves significant cost vs replacement.

Door & Interlock Service

Door hinge, latch, and interlock switch replacement. NEVER bypass interlocks — safety critical. Microwave leakage test with calibrated meter after every door service.

Microwave Leakage Testing

Calibrated leakage meter testing after any door or magnetron service. Industry safety standard limit is 5 mW/cm². We document leakage levels on every service certificate.

Control Panel Service

Membrane keypad replacement, ribbon cable reseating, control board repair. Where possible, we replace just the affected component rather than entire control assembly.

Microwave Care

6 practices for safe, long microwave life

Never run empty

Running microwave empty has no food to absorb energy — damages magnetron. If demonstrating or testing, place a cup of water inside. Single most common cause of magnetron damage.

Clean cavity weekly

Food splatter absorbs microwave energy and reduces efficiency. Burnt-on food can cause arcing damage. Wipe cavity weekly with damp cloth and mild detergent.

No metal — except specific dishes

Metal causes arcing that damages cavity and magnetron. Exception: specifically designed microwave-safe metal (rare). When in doubt, don't.

Don't close empty for storage

Many people use microwave for storing items when not in use. Items left inside can be accidentally microwaved (potentially burning house). Keep cavity empty when not cooking.

Don't slam the door

Door interlock switches are safety-critical and precise. Slamming the door damages alignment and can cause "won't start" failures. Close gently every time.

Allow ventilation clearance

Microwaves need air circulation around the case for cooling. Maintain 10cm clearance on all sides and 30cm above. Built-in installations require functional ventilation kit.
